The most praised time of the year for College Football has arrived, the 2021-2022 bowl game season. The best of the best teams in CFB face off every year around the holidays for an exciting game with teams they don’t usually play in the regular season. Fans from all around the country travel down south for the highly anticipated matchups. Here is a recap of the most interesting and “edge of your seat” bowl games from the past couple of weeks.
Starting off with a bang with two college football playoff contenders, the Georgia Bulldogs and the Michigan Wolverines in the Orange Bowl. The No. 2 seed, Michigan Wolverines take the field with intentions of heading into the CFB championship and putting up a good fight with the No. 3 seed, Georgia. The Wolverines had a strong season defeating Ohio State 42-27 in the Big 10 playoffs and named Big 10 champions after winning 42-3 over Iowa in the Big 10 championship. The Georgia Bulldogs always seem to be playoff contenders every year and they did not disappoint this game. At the end of the first quarter, Georgia led Michigan 14-0, outgaining the Wolverines by 99 yards. During the second quarter, Michigan kicked a 44-yard field goal to settle for 3 points. Stetson Bennett for the bulldogs throws a bomb pass to Jermaine Burton for a 53-yard touchdown at the end of the quarter. Bennett was on fire. The Bulldogs dominated the first two quarters, outgaining the Wolverines 330 yards to 101. At the end of the game, the Bulldogs dominated from start to finish, outgaining the Wolverines 515 yards to 315. Georgia advances to face Alabama in the national championship. The final score was 34-11 Georgia Bulldogs.
The very popular Rose Bowl was definitely a game you did not want to miss, but if you did… Here’s a quick recap of the intense matchup between No. 6 seed, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the No. 11 seed, the Utah Utes. Utah jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Then, in the second quarter, both teams combined for six touchdowns, setting the stage for a chaotic back-and-forth battle throughout the final 30 minutes of the game. With 4:22 left to play, Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud connected with wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 30-yard touchdown, giving the Buckeyes their first lead of the game, 45-38. When quarterback Cam Rising left the game with what seemed to be a concussion in the fourth quarter, the game slipped away from Utah. Rising’s head hit the turf after being sacked, and he lay motionless on his back for a few minutes before rising and walking off the field on his own. Before the game-winning field goal, his backup, Bryson Barnes, led a game-tying touchdown drive in the final minutes. Ohio State came from behind to pull off an epic 48-45 win over Utah.
