Fall is here and sweater weather is finally among us. It’s time to pull out the flannels and say goodbye to our tank tops. Every year as fall approaches, stores get ready to fill their racks full of cozy and trendy clothing. Neutral tones and plaid continue to make it back each year, but have the trends changed? Here’s what employees at the Mainstream Boutique here in Waukee had to say about recurring fall fashion trends.
When Amy and Rachel, employees at Mainstream Boutique, were asked about fall trends they’ve noticed this year, they both quickly mentioned “Shackets”. What is a shacket you’re probably wondering? Well, it’s exactly what it sounds like, a crossover between a shirt and a jacket. Described as oversized flannel shirts, Amy says they are “great for layering”. This versatile piece of clothing can be found pretty much at any clothing store nowadays. According to Rachel, shackets are definitely a recurring piece and added “I think they’re bigger this year than they were last year”. This popularity around the shacket is most likely due to its ability to be dressed up or down and gives it the ability to be worn over and over again.
Fall clothing staples are important, but how do you determine what to add to your collection? Again Rachel reiterated, “you gotta have a shacket, then a great basic to go underneath of it”. On the other hand, Amy mentioned sweatshirts and how details can go a long way. Things like tie-dye, camo, and animal print are all styles that have been trendy for quite some time and can make such a difference in your fall outfits.
“I would say each year they change just enough that you can justify getting more,” says Amy. Another cool fall fashion trend they mentioned was sweater vests. They’re “a good trendy piece to have,” Rachel added.
There isn’t a right or wrong way to fall fashion, the beauty in it is that everyone can take their own styles and incorporate trends to fit how they want to dress. Observations of how older and younger generations dress is also an interesting part of fashion. So no matter who you are or what your personal style may be, you are sure to find a fall fashion trend you can incorporate into your wardrobe.
