“And you’re watching Disney channel!” Most people would agree that that is pretty nostalgic. A lot of kids grew up watching and loving the Disney channel. With winter just around the corner and seasonal depression coming to a rise, one of the most enjoyable things to do was to watch the Disney channel’s original movies, especially the musicals. But which movie musical is the best? That’s been officially put to the test! This is the ranking of the best musicals on “Disney channel”.
6. In sixth place is Teen Beach Movie. Teen Beach Movie is about two teenagers going back in time to a 1960s movie based on “west side story”, they have to set things right in both the 60s and in their own lives to go back to the present. Sophomore Ethan Keller said, “My favorite Disney musical is teen beach movie. I love the music and the plot.” It was placed here because the plot was very unique and different, but the songs don’t go into much depth about the real struggles that were going on during that time.In fifth place is Camp Rock. Camp Rock is a drama following a young girl’s struggle to fit in at a music camp along with a good amount of boy trouble. This movie did a good job with the songs, and the vocals were really good even though some of the lyrics were not. It was placed in fifth because it is a great movie but some of the boys were just cast because they were celebrities.
In fourth place is “Let It Shine. Let It Shine” a story about a teenage boy who struggles with stage fright, when his best friend uses his song lyrics to get close to a girl, he has to fight to win her affection and prove himself to his father. This movie had good lyrics and all of their songs had meanings that other people can relate to. It was placed here because the acting needed some work but overall was good.
In third place is “Descendants”. “Descendants” follows the children of many beloved Disney characters. “Descendants” is about Ben, the benevolent teenage son of the Beast and Belle, who offers a chance of redemption for the troublemaking children of classic Disney villains: Maleficent, Cruella De Vil, the Evil Queen, and Jafar. They have to choose, do they follow in their parent’s footsteps? Or make a difference and be good. It was ranked third because of its unique plot and great music.
In second place is Lemonade Mouth. Lemonade Mouth is about five high school students who form a music group while stuck in detention. Senior Annie Diener said, “I really like lemonade mouth, I love the music, it is just so catchy.” It was placed here because of the wide variety of music and the plot goes into detail about each character’s home life and struggles.
In first place is High School Musical. High School Musical is about a girl and boy from different sides of the lunchroom coming together to do the school musical, they struggle with the judgment of their friends and peers and have to decide what matters to them. Junior Eleanor Peiper said, “My favorite is high school musical because it is awesome and is very nostalgic for me.” It was ranked first because of its catchy songs and because of the vocal quality in the actors’ voices.
Whether it’s a movie about the drama in summer camps or about the struggle to stick to the status quo, it is always fun to sit back, grab the popcorn, and watch a musical especially when you feel the seasonal depression hit. There is so much nostalgia impacted into these musicals. Taking the time to sit back and watch a Disney channel movie just might make someone’s day.
