TikTok has had a lot of controversies over the years. There are many negatives including triggering content, bullying spreading of misinformation, sexual predators, and sexualizing minors.
There is a lot of triggering content on TikTok such as ED, SA, etc. Some of the content is for awareness but other times there are people who judge those for coming out and speaking about their struggles and that is a very negative approach. Eating disorders on TikTok are often glamorized and promoted and there’s always an opportunity for bullying and harassment on TikTok. Negative comparisons are always a possibility on TikTok. You see all these beautiful girls and these ripped guys and you wonder, why do I not look like that? Girls see that and they long to look like that, they want to be them. They want to be famous. They’ll do anything for views, and that’s where the sexualization of minors comes in. Girls start wearing shorter clothing and they get more views, but older men use those videos for sexual pleasure, and that is so scary to think about.
Tik Tok has very inappropriate content at times and roughly 32.5% of TikTok users are between the ages of 10 and 19. Young consumers consuming negative content can change their behavior and value and beliefs. Along with inappropriate content, there is a spread of information that can also influence young people.

Although there are many negatives to Tik Tok, there are also positives but you’ll just have to read next week to find out.
