The Waukee High School Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) was disappointed in Iowa’s new law banning transgender girls and women from competing in high school and college sports. The law claims that these women have biological advantages. The GSA felt there needed to be action taken to show their disapproval of this law.
GSA called upon students in the Waukee district to come together. Students from Waukee and Northwest left the building and walked to the shelter at Centennial Park. There GSA leader Isaiah Dale spoke to the eager audience about the views of the GSA. Dale introduced a variety of speakers, including a passionate community leader and students from both sides of the district. IN addition to students attending the walkout, news outlets and Waukee families all supported the speeches and the message of what the GSA was promoting.
