Hurricane Ian made landfall as a category 4 hurricane in Fort Myers, Florida. Before the hurricane made landfall, Florida was already preparing for a destructive hurricane. The path of the hurricane entered from the Gulf of Mexico on the west coast of Florida and went through the state exiting the northeast. once it was out of the state it headed for south carolina hitting the coast as a category 1 hurricane.
The flooding is intense with videos going viral showing the severity of the flooding. Local Florida news station WPLG Local 10 shared ariel footage of the coast where the hurricane ravaged the area. Due to the hurricane just happening, no official cost has been determined as of now it is thought the cost can be up to $70 Billion in damage.
Hurricane Ian left around 1.5 million people without power. At least 80 people have died as a result of the storm, with some reports putting the toll over 100.
This disaster has also shed light on something else, as reported by Time magazine global warming added about 10 percent more rain to the storm. scientists also noticed how fast the storm intensified. not only is the world warming up, and the sea level rise, but global warming contributes to the severity of the storm. due to the heating of the earth, the winds pick up quicker, so the storm will become more devastating when it makes landfall.
