Is the Stress of School too Much for Teens?
What causes school stress, and how can you treat it

Two main causes of teen stress and bad mental health are schoolwork, and school in general. When teens are staying up late to do multiple assignments for different classes every night, it starts to become too much for them to handle. Sophomore, Avery Frederick said, “It makes me feel overwhelmed especially when I have other things after school, and then I have no time to do my homework, and when I have to stay up late doing it, I can’t get up in the mornings”. When you are tired at school, it’s hard to stay focused and get things done, which then again leads to having homework and staying up too late, it is a repeating cycle.
We all know school isn’t the most exciting thing in the world, going to school causes a lot of stress. “The part about school that makes my mental health go down is worrying about grades, studying, and preparing for tests, test days, and finals,” said junior, Mia smith. Bad Mental health doesn’t always mean you have bad thoughts, it can mean you just aren’t motivated to do things. That is what the stress from school can do, as well as make you depressed, and heighten your anxiety levels.
There are many resources for teens experiencing stress, and bad mental health. One of those resources is Kee2Change. Kee2Change is a group that meets before school to talk about mental health. “It’s basically the mental health club where we talk about mental health, but also we just kinda hang out, and sometimes we color and listen to podcasts and stuff”. Said sophomore Colin Gach. This club can be a fun way to make friends, and help relieve your stress. If joining a club seems more stressful there are more things you can do, like if you participate in a sport that you enjoy, that is a great way to get things off your mind. Another thing is just hanging out with friends or people you enjoy talking to and doing something fun and stress-relieving.
