3… 2…1… IT’S TIME TO BEREAL. BeReal sends a notification once a day at a random time to let you know you have two minutes to “be real, ” which means you have a 2-minute window to post a picture onto the app. If you do not post within the 2-minute frame don’t worry you can still post anytime during that day but your friends will see how late you are, which is not the point of being honest. To see your friend’s posts, you are required to post a picture. Sophomore Shaelyn Raymond said “I really like BeReal because it gives some people something to look forward to in a day, and it’s also a way that people can connect and see what their friends are doing” Even though BeReal can be fun when it goes off at a time when you are doing something photo-worthy, most of the time you are not doing anything when it goes off. When it goes off and you aren’t doing anything at the moment you tend to just leave it until you are doing something fun, which is not the point of being real. Senior Quinnlyn Jones said “ I don’t really care for BeReal because sometimes it can be fun to see what people are doing at the moment, but a lot of times if you do it at the time it goes off, you just see people sitting in their beds and it’s kinda boring. It would be a lot better if you could just post the best part of the day.” If you look past all the good parts, This app can cause a little bit of stress for the people who have it. Junior Madeline Bart said, “The app is fun to show off what you’re doing, but it can also be a little stressful because if you’re not doing something fun you’re not going to want to post unless you are, so you kind of force yourself to do something just for a picture.” However, the decision to BeReal or BeFake is up to you.
