Students are all talking about seeing the new Black Panther movie, which released on November 11th. They wonder how it is going to be without the main character, Black Panther.
With the death of Chadwick Boseman, rather than recast his role as the king, the writer and production team chose to honor Boseman’s memory by putting his death into the storyline of the new film. Why did they choose to do this? In a recent interview with Empire, Kevin Feige explains why they did not go the recasting route for black panther. “It just felt like it was much too soon to recast,” he admitted.
With this being said, many students have explained that this movie will never be the same without Chadwick Boseman. Junior Future Chayee said, “the movie was pretty good, but it was also an emotional roller coaster because of the memories and symbolism related to Chadwick.”
Most of the students stated the fact that they included some kind of memory of him was a very important part. Sophomore Baleska Diaz-Ulloa stated, “I think the story was good because the story still went on even without Chadwick (RIP) but there were some plot twists and some cliffhangers which also made it even more interesting.”
The film opened in 4,300 theaters and has already grossed over $500 million, so it must be resonating with audiences. Sophomore Mayah Melendez said, “the movie took a different turn than I thought it was going to go and the new characters are very unique and interesting #Wakanda forever.”
