The FIFA World Cup has come to an end with Argentina barely beating out France 3-3(4-2 in penalty kicks) for the World Cup title in Qatar. Argentina has now won 3 World Cup titles, in 1978,1986, and 2022. In the finals against the French, Lionel Messi had 2 goals (‘23, ‘108) and Angel Di Maria also had a goal (‘36). But for the french, Kylian Mbappe had a historic 3 goals (‘80, ‘81, ‘118) in the final making him the second player to do so in World Cup history.
Argentinian Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez won the Golden Glove for best goalkeeper, an impressive save some may argue was luck, saved the game for the Argentinians and kept them in the game.
Kylian Mbappe won the Golden Boot for best field player in the tournament due to his impressive 3 goals, Mbappe had scored 8 goals in the tournament, most of any player.
The Golden Ball award is given to the best player of the tournament, Lionel Messi who won the award with 7 goals and 3 assists. He also made history
The best young player award was awarded to Enzo Fernandez, an Argentinian center midfielder, regardless of his low stat line, he played a crucial role in setting up goals and opportunities for his team.
And finally, the fairest team award was awarded to England. Who played promising football before succumbing to France in the quarter-finals.
The game itself was an intense match that had viewers from all over the world glued to the screen. It was something special watching Lionel Messi finally secure the World Cup trophy, and his team’s great performance during the Cup was great. Messi made history by becoming the first player to score in every stage of the World Cup, as well as winning 5 Man of the Match awards in the World Cup, most of any player.
