2nd Semester Phone Policy
Tighter Restrictions or Made-up Rumor?
Some students have reported a rumored change in classroom phone policies, but is it actually true? Supposedly, around the start of 2nd semester, phone restrictions are supposed to be a lot tighter.
When the assistant principal, Mr. Hiesterman, was asked about this, he confirmed it was just a rumor that spawned off of something way different. He suspected that this “policy” started as an idea teachers had to teach students when are appropriate times to use phones, such as during independent work time, and in between classes rather than during lessons and instructions. He compared it to how you don’t see teachers on their phones while teaching a lesson, so students shouldn’t be distracted either.
What’s more, is that this potential idea wasn’t even supposed to be enforced in high schools. The original plan was to come up with a way to teach younger students in mainly middle and junior high schools to not use their phones as much so that by the time they reach high school, they aren’t tempted as much.
This was shared amongst select WHS teachers on January 4th and was probably overheard by some students who got the wrong idea. Mr. Hiesterman thinks that since all rumors, given some time, turn out to become very distorted which might have caused this suggestion in middle schools to transform into a restriction in high schools.
