The best places to take photos around downtown Des Moines
Share this story
Iowa may be considered one of the more boring states, but the scenery around downtown Des Moines is a sight to see. One way to capture these beautiful scenes is to go around and take pictures. Below are some of my favorite scenery in downtown Des Moines.
Capital Building
The capitol building is one of the most unique buildings in all of downtown Des Moines, whether it’s in the background or the main point of your photo the capital building will grab anyone’s attention in a photo.
Asian Gardens
The Asian Gardens downtown are a very cool place to get photos, maybe not in Winter but during the Summer, Spring, and early Fall this spot is very colorful and full of life. No matter where you stand to take photos here you will always have people checking out your photos.
Downtown Arch Bridge
The Iowa Women of Achievement Bridge is another good spot to get photos, typically you’d see people take pictures of this bridge during the day, but at night the lights make this bridge light up with all sorts of colors.
Evelyn K. Davis Center mural
The Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families has one of the coolest murals in all of downtown Des Moines, this photo would be good to take a few years apart, the whole vibe that this mural gives off is like the evolution of a family.
The streets of Des Moines
The downtown streets are one of the most photographed scenes because they are so lively, all the moving parts within one stationary photo make the streets one of the best places to snap a shot.
The Sculpture park
The Sculpture Park has plenty of unique and wonderful backdrops for photos, with a bunch of weird and wacky sculptures these photos will definitely catch anyone’s eye.
Covered bridges across the street
The covered bridge across the street is definitely a fall type of photo shoot location, the colors of the trees and grass around the top left, top right, and bottom, and the blue sky at the top, with a beautiful covered bridge, this photo will be eye candy.
