Incredible Story of Bills Safety Damar Hamlin
The story of Demar Hamlin's recovery, and a misconception regarding his return

One of the biggest news stories of the year took place when Buffalo Bills Safety Damar Hamlin suddenly collapsed on the field after a collision with Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. At first, many people believed it was just another routine type of football injury, but sadly that was not the case. Hamlin was lying on the ground, and little did anyone at first know that his heart was not beating. Luckily a member of the medical team for the Bills organization named Denny Kellington applied CPR to Hamlin for 9 minutes until medical assistance could bring an ambulance onto the field and transport Hamlin to the local hospital. Munil Ana shares the same thoughts as many as everything went down “I thought that I might have actually seen a player die live on T.V. It was scary to watch not knowing what was happening”.
People everywhere began to come together and display support for Hamlin with people donating to his charity which is now over $10 million dollars in total donations. “It was cool seeing everyone come together and support a person. No matter what team people were fans of, they all became Hamlin fans for the time being” said sophomore Marc Benz. Over the next couple of days and the following week, Hamlin showed improvements while in the hospital such as being able to get his breathing tube removed and being able to move his body around slightly. This is significant to know for later on in the article.
With Buffalo Bills making it past the Miami Dolphins in the AFC Wildcard round they now faced the Cincinnati Bengals in a divisional-round playoff game. This was not only a huge game because it was in the playoffs, but it was also being played by the two teams in which Hamlin’s devastating injury occurred only three weeks prior.
This is the exact moment in time when the story gets peculiarly abnormal. The cameras panned to a man sitting in a box suit at the two-minute warning in the first half of the game and that man was Damar Hamlin. Or was it… Instantly on social media people started questioning if the man at the game was actually Damar. Drew Klemesrud agrees, “I think it is a possibility that they sent someone who looks like him (Damar Hamlin) because it would generate numbers for the league”.
NFL fans and nonfans alike questioned this because of two main reasons. The first reason is that he would be in bad condition still with the injury taking place only three weeks ago. In the video that has been spreading around everywhere the man in the video is moving very well raising both arms up and down perfectly fine. People questioned this because according to medical professionals on average when CPR is provided the person, the one who gets the CPR suffers broken ribs 70% of the time. That would make it very hard for Hamlin to move around his body the way the man in the video did due to the short recovery time.
The other reason some conspirators started not believing what was being shown is because the man in the video’s face was never shown due to the man wearing a mask and sunglasses. It also didn’t help the case that the view of the man is not very clear because of the snowfall. Other videos of the man at the game are limited and in each and every video it seems like the man is trying to cover his face from the cameras. If this was actually Hamlin why would he try and cover his face from all the cameras?
On a podcast, the Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has come forward and denied all the theories saying that it was not actually Hamlin. When addressing the outfit that Hamlin was wearing and people were questioning Allen was quoted saying “That is Damar’s swag“. Later on in the podcast, Allen states that Hamlin was in the locker room with the team “he was in the locker room with us pregame, so yes, that was Damar.
Overall the situation is exciting due to the fact that Damar Hamlin was almost dead on the field leaving many spectators confused then only three weeks later was seemingly fine in time to watch Bill’s divisional matchup against the same team he was injured against.
