Waukee Under Construction

Many towns in Des Moines and the surrounding areas have many stores, including Target. Waukee is now opening a target in mid-2024, occupying a tract southwest of the intersection of Hickman Road and Alice’s Road. Many residents in Waukee will be happy to see this new target opening. Sophomore Laney Haviland said, “I’m excited about the new Target because now I can go more often with my friends.”

Not only is a Target coming to Waukee, but there is also an area in the city being built called KeeTown Loop. It is Waukee’s premier entertainment district. There are many things being added like shopping, nightlife, and entertainment options so everyone can have a good time. Junior Mia Smith said, “I am very happy that Waukee is expanding and creating new opportunities for our school district.” Expanding and adding new things to Waukee is a good idea because it can bring more residents to this area and it can be an opportunity for more jobs.

With Target coming to Waukee it gives teens a big opportunity to get jobs because it is an easy place to work without the added stress of other jobs. Without the help of the residents that live here, they were persistent in requesting things to be built here, it makes it a lot easier to get things done without having to go all the way to a city to do everything. Sophomore Lexie Powers said, “ I think with all the new and exciting things coming to Waukee it’ll just make life easier, and with Target especially it gives me and my friends a place to go when we are bored.” All these new developments will present many opportunities in many different ways, for many different people. We are all excited to see what else comes to Waukee in the future.
