The shamrock shake is here, but not for long. The shake is sold at Mcdonald’s for a limited time. It’s available from February twentieth to the week after Saint Patrick’s Day, March seventeenth. It’s an exciting drink that only stays for the time of Saint Patrick’s. Depending on the Mcdonalds, the supply may last longer than others. You may be able to secure a drink still. The shamrock shake consists of reduced-fat vanilla ice cream, shamrock shake syrup, and whipped light cream. It comes in all sizes, small, medium, and large for your liking. The price ranges from three to four dollars, based on the size. A temporary seasonal drink that tastes like mint, is it good or not? Mint ice cream is a controversial topic, but how about shakes? Some just don’t have a liking for this flavor. Junior Future Chayee stated “I don’t recommend the shake because it tasted like toothpaste. To me, mint and ice cream do not go together.” Before, the shake did not contain mint. Let’s go back in history.
The shake was first introduced in the 1970s, and it was a lemon/lime flavor with vanilla ice cream. Though, in 1973 the shake was now a green color with a mint flavor. Due to a lack of sales of this dessert in 1980, the shake was no longer sold. But recently in 2017, they added more to just the shamrock shake. There was a Shamrock Chocolate Shake, the Shamrock Chocolate Chip Frappé, the Shamrock Mocha, and the Shamrock Hot Chocolate. Overall- they just added chocolate to these deserts. These drinks were only sold in 2017. They are no longer here. On the other hand, the Shamrock McFlurry is available. To spice things up. We all know a classic McFlurry- blended cookie oreos with a vanilla base. But now it’s a shamrock. A shamrock syrup- the minty taste is back. Sophomore Jackson Donahue quoted “I liked the shamrock mc flurry better, the Oreos made it taste better.” Senior, Mirinda Peters explained, “When I tried the shamrock shake it wasn’t as good as I expected. I think it’s overrated.” Mcdonald’s may need to step up their game. Festive drinks are things many people look forward to at specific times of the year.
Mcdonald’s has tried its best to create a festive shake for Saint Patrick’s time. Many different flavors to try and satisfy the customers. Should the shamrock shake be discounted, or should there be a new flavor? We, the customers, are the answers, choosing the next festive drink.
