Poppy Roy(senior) and (Junior) Lexy Taylor of Waukee High School were recognized for the Youth Appreciation Recognition Program. This program is sponsored by the Noon Optimist Club. The purpose of the Youth Appreciation program is to recognize kids who are making a positive contribution to their schools, community, churches, youth organizations, and more.
By celebrating these kids that are making a difference, we are making the school and community a better place. The annual optimist youth appreciation is sponsored by the optimist club of West Des Moines. It celebrates two students from our high school along with the surrounding high schools who have contributed their time, talent, and enthusiasm to contribute to a better school and a better community. Junior Lexy Taylor said “I felt like I had done something to make this school better and just brought enthusiasm to school. I didn’t think I would be nominated but Ms. Watkins called me down one day and told me that she nominated me for something.” Mrs. Watkins was asked why she picked these students for this award and she responded, ” I picked Poppy and Lexy because I have gotten to know them a lot over the years and they are so bubbly and always have a smiles on their faces and our school is better because of them.” Poppy Roy explained how “I didn’t know what the award was for but when I came down I was excited and very happy to have received the award.” These students are making a difference in our community, by spreading positivity everywhere they go.
