Former President Indicted
On the 30th of March, 2023, the former 45th president of the United States, Donald J. Trump, was formally indicted on more than 30 counts of business-related fraud charges. This marks the first time a former president has been indicted In American history.
What Is Indictment?
An indictment is when a grand jury brings charges against a person given there is the sufficient probable cause but has not yet been through a trial. An indictment is common in high-profile cases (when a case is being followed by many people), potential serious felony offenses, or when the individual being indicted had previously, or currently served in office. The indictment, in this case, could be due to many of these factors.
What will Happen
The reactions have been mixed, Many left-wing politicians and news sources are praising the indictment, and right-wing politicians and media are calling this a “witch hunt.” Trump is due to turn himself in to the NYDA (New York District Attorney) on Tuesday, April 4. Usually, after an indictment is given, it is followed by an arrest warrant, hence the fact he is expected to turn himself in. When he turns himself in he will be booked, which includes his fingerprints and a mug shot. His official trial won’t have a date until he is turned in and booked, but this case is going to be extremely high profile and the nation’s eyes will be on the Former President of the United States of America.
Trump’s Reaction
In recent days since the indictment was announced Donald Trump has been very active on social media. In October 2021, after being banned from almost every social media platform Donald Trump created Truth Social, a social media alternative aimed at people who seek free speech. This app tends to bring in a largely conservative audience. He recently has been posting accusations of corruption against him by the NYDA, Asking for his supporter’s donations to pay for legal fees, and Posting about the radical left’s attempt to suppress him. Donald Trump is no stranger when it comes to social media, as he was notorious for his social media posts and rants during his presidency.
