On the last day of her first American leg of the Eras Tour, Taylor Swift announced that she would be rerecording her 5th studio album 1989. Fans were speculating Taylor would drop something like this on the last night, considering the date was 8/9. Earlier in the tour, Taylor announced that she was rerecording Speak Now, her 3rd studio album. She told this on May 5th, 2023 during her first night in Nashville. The album also came out on 7/7, on which she was in Kansas City, therefore she got to celebrate her album with her fans. 1989 is a fan favorite, and fans all around the world are excited to get to experience this album dropping again. 1989 Taylor’s Version will be out October 27th. So give it a listen!
But why is Taylor Swift rerecording her first 6 studio albums? Let’s break it down. Throughout 2018 and 2019 Taylor’s record label, The Big Machine, was sold to a man named Scooter Braun. Scooter Braun then proceeded to sell her masters, her first 6 albums, to another company, therefore she lost the rights to her music. After her record label was sold, Taylor signed to Republic Records, which allowed her to own the rights to her music. Therefore Taylor’s recent 4 albums, Lover, Folklore, Evermore, and Midnights are all owned by her. Since the copyright of the song is different from the copyright of the recording, that lets Taylor rerecord them. Taylor also writes most of her music, therefore also making it easier for her to gain back the rights. Taylor firmly believes that artists should be able to own the rights to their art and is a big activist in the cause. Taylor has already rerecorded her second album Fearless, her fourth album Red, and as was mentioned earlier, her third album Speak Now. That leaves her very first album, Taylor Swift, and her 6th album Reputation. Fans are constantly spectating what will come next after 1989.
1989 Taylor’s Version will consist of the 16 original songs of 1989 and the deluxe version of the album. The album will also have 5 new vault tracks. Vault tracks are songs cut from the original album, but now that Taylor is rerecording, she is putting some of her favorite tracks cut from the album for her fans to hear. These are all songs written at the time the original album was made. The five new vault tracks are called: “Slut!”, Say Don’t Go, Now That We Don’t Talk, Suburban Legends, and Is It Over Now?.
The swifties all around the school are excited about this album drop. Sophomore Ella Wells says “I was so excited when I found out that Taylor was re-recording this album because 1989 has been one of my favorite albums ever since I was 6 years old! My favorite song from the 1989 album is ” New Romantics or ” Clean.” When asked how she feels about the album, Senior Gabby Buresh states “I am so excited! This album was such a big part of my childhood, and I can’t wait to hear the vault tracks.” English teacher Mrs. Chia comments on her favorite 1989 songs, “It is a tie between “This Love” and”Style “. I love the lyrics of “This Love” – but- “Style” is so darn catchy and fun.”
Swifties everywhere love the idea of getting to experience Taylor’s new versions of these albums. Taylor has also said many times that she loves getting to go back in time and release her iconic albums. As it was stated earlier, 1989 is a fan favorite. 1989 is even considered to be the most-awarded pop album of all time. No doubt 1989 Taylor’s Version will have swifties and everyone raving.
