The Waukee Warriors have played 10 games so far this season. For regular season games, they went 7-2 with an amazing 42-0 win against Council Bluffs to finish! Now, they are headed to the playoffs! This has been an outstanding year with talented players, especially seniors. Plus, this year’s crowd has helped the fiery atmosphere at each game! Senior Cooper Andrews says, “Being able to play in front of the best student section in the state is always electric and I can’t wait for each game”.
It’s safe to say that this year has been one of the best! After the split between Waukee and Northwest, Waukee lost lots of talented players and it’s been hard to regain confidence. 2 years ago the record was 2-7. Last year, the record was 4-5. But, this year Waukee’s team came back better than ever. The players were ready to show everyone their hard work and set high standards. Senior Henrik Nimley says, “The team met my expectations for sure. Going into the summer, me and all the guys were set on setting a new standard for all the younger guys coming into Waukee”.
Headed into the playoffs, the guys are very excited to continue their journey. Senior Cooper Andrews adds, “Having a 7-2 record and going into the playoffs ranked 6th in the state is very cool, but I don’t believe we have met our expectations. There is still a lot of football left to play and we are hoping to keep pushing to that state championship”. The guys plan on going much further and trying harder each game. Last Friday, they won the first round against Cedar Rapids Prairie and they are off to a great start! Headed into round 2 next week against Valley, Senior Nile Eddy says, “It’s a great thing for the school to be back in the playoffs and competing for a state championship. But at the end of the day it’s just another game. You just have to go 1-0 every week”. These boys are very motivated and ready to play ball. Good Luck Warriors!
