Is Decorating for Every Holiday Necessary?
Long after Halloween and Christmas, Families Embrace Seasonal Flair

Just imagine you walk into a house at the beginning of February, and the house is filled with pink hearts and cupid arrows. Why would someone decorate their house like this? Well, for Valentine’s Day, of course! You’ve most likely seen Christmas and Halloween decorations, but have you seen Valentine’s Day? St. Patrick’s Day? What about Easter? Very few decorate for those smaller holidays, but why not celebrate every little thing you can?
Many families take pride in their decor. Senior Clare Johnson said, “My family decorates our house for Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, and sometimes for Valentine’s Day to help embrace and celebrate the holidays. It’s also just fun and exciting to decorate.” Sydney Burrier, a sophomore, replied, “I decorate my house for Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Halloween. We decorate our house because it makes you more in the spirit for the holiday. I would also say it is a good tradition that me and my family like to do!” Sydney has a strong holiday spirit.
Some people spend a lot of time working on bedazzling up their house for every holiday. Is all their hard work appreciated? We asked many people what they think about the people that decorate for every holiday and here are some of our responses: “I hate when other holidays try and be Christmas,” Jessie Carter, a senior, exclaimed as we walked through the Valentine’s Day section at Target. Clare Johnson said, “I think that people who decorate for every holiday are probably very spirited or fun people who like to celebrate.” Clare appreciates people who have holiday spirit! We also chatted with sophomore Sydney Burrier, “I think people who decorate their house for every holiday are people who love tradition and make sure every holiday is special for their family.”
In my house, we decorate for all the holidays. From Christmas trees during Christmas, to four-leaf clovers during St. Patrick’s Day! We do not lack holiday spirit. Decorating is one of my family’s favorite things and hopefully, our decorations have inspired people to get involved in the decorating fun.
