A Super Bowl in Review: Looking back on the Highs and Lows of the Super Bowl

This year the 2024 Super Bowl had the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers. The Super Bowl is the final game of the football season here, after many challenging games in the regular season. As the Author of the Article, personally, my family roots for the Packers but our team didn’t make it. Many upsets and disappointments happened this season. One of which included the many teams that didn’t make it to the Super Bowl, the Baltimore Ravens who were one of the favorites to win, and the Detroit Lions who were having a great comeback story. Junior Victor Njane voices his opinions on the teams saying, “My teams didn’t make it, but next year I think the league will look very different.” But with the Chiefs winning 25-22 over the Niners, cementing themselves as a dynasty in American football. The Chiefs being a dynasty team is still being debated on whether or not they are one, but they are one of the best teams this past season. Senior Payton Mizer talks about his favorite team the Bears, “My favorite team is the Chicago Bears. They got better this year, but they still weren’t very good.” Junior Marco Contreras mentions how he wanted the Cardinals to make it, and for the 49ers to win. 

But a few players stood out amongst the two teams. The quarterbacks for both teams; Brock Purdy for the 49ers, and Patrick Mahomes for the Chiefs, led both of their teams outstandingly well. Christian McCaffrey, running back for the 49ers had. Purdy played for Iowa State, causing a lot of Iowans to root for the Niners. On TikTok and other video platforms, plenty of people were posting about how they wanted certain players to beat the Chiefs, stopping them from going to the Super Bowl. This started with people posting about Lamar Jackson quarterback of the Baltimore Ravens, and after they were beaten by the Chiefs the videos switched to Purdy to beat the Chiefs. We can’t forget about Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl. Rumors started about her dating a member of the Chiefs, Tight End Travis Kelce, before they finally went public. And with her being very popular, many theories about her and games being rigged to bring her fans to watch the Super Bowl. But whether or not you believe that, it was an entertaining game to watch. 

But the Super Bowl wasn’t all good news. Recent events of the parade at Kansas City itself, where an attacker injured about 20 people and one dead. This is a national tragedy that happened during a celebration of the Super Bowl at the parade with the players. Thankfully more people were not hurt and the shooter was apprehended. Regardless of whether or not you are a fan of the Chiefs, this was a tragedy that will hopefully not happen again.
