In the colorful realm of international music, few events rival the extravagance and excitement of the Eurovision Song Contest. It started as an idea of European Broadcasting Union Director Marcel Bezencon, who suggested a TV show based on the Italian Festival di Sanremo. The concept has changed a lot since its debut, but it did not lose its popularity. It captivated audiences with its eclectic blend of performances, cultural diversity, and fierce competition. Since 1956 Eurovision was the time people could forget about their conflicts and simply enjoy the good music and creativity of artists worldwide. Let’s see what is so special about this major event.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 is an annual televised song competition organized by The European Broadcasting Union. According to the BBC, “The 2024 contest features 37 performers chosen by EBU member broadcasters to represent their country.” The voting process, with its combination of professional juries and public votes, adds an element of unpredictability to the competition. Fans eagerly await the announcement of results, cheering for their favorite acts and passionately debating the merits of each performance. Eurovision has a knack for producing both jubilant celebrations and heart-wrenching disappointments, keeping audiences on the edge of their seats until the final votes are tallied. This year, Eurovision will be hosted in Malmö, Sweden. It has already been held in Malmö 3 times, and 7 times in Sweden overall as stated on the official Eurovision website dedicated to Malmö.
Last year, Eurovision was held in Liverpool, United Kingdom. Though the winner was the country of Ukraine, due to the Russian invasion of the country, Ukraine was not able to host Eurovision 2023. During the contest, the top three songs were “Tatoo” by Loreen coming in first place, “Cha Cha Cha” by Käärijä as runner-up, and “Unicorn” by Noa Kirel in third place. “Cha Cha Cha” and “Tattoo” were neck and neck, but nobody expected “Tattoo” to win. There were a lot of controversies because of this outcome. Some people were not satisfied with the top 3 at all.
The Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 will take place in the Malmö Arena on Saturday 11 May with Semi-Finals on Tuesday 7 and Thursday 9 May. Don’t miss this opportunity. Go and watch Eurovision, enjoy the music, vote for your favorites, and cheer for them.
