Jedi Master Rey?

Since 1977 when Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope came out, Star Wars has been giving people happiness and excitement worldwide for at least six generations. With 11 movies and about 16 series and ongoing. In April of 2023 at the Star Wars Celebration, President Kathleen Kennedy officially announced a new Star Wars movie with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinony as director. This means that the beloved Star Wars series will have 12 movies in total. Here’s everything you need to know about this up-and-coming movie.

The movie will star Daisy Ridley returning as Rey who will now be known as Master Jedi Rey. The movie will take place 15 years after Rise Of Skywalker, with Rey constructing a new Jedi order throughout the movie, after defeating her grandfather Emperor Palpatine and the sinister First Order. The movie has no title at this current time of date. Although Lucas’s film has named this new era of Star Wars movies the “New Jedi Order” which could give a hint of the name of the new movie.  It’s reported that the movie will be released before two other future Star Wars films, making it release somewhere around March 2026. It’s most likely that the movie will be released in theaters rather than Disney+, where most Disney movies are being released now.  It’s reported by Production Weekly that filming for the movie will start this month.

With George Lucas no longer directing nor being a part of the films and J. J. Abrams not directing, it left some fans questioning who will be directing this new Rey sequel. Well, directing the Rey movie will be none other than Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a two-time Oscar-winning filmmaker. Her only collaboration with any Disney film is Two Ms Marvel episodes. Obaid-Chinoy is on her way to becoming the first female director of a Star Wars movie. 

When senior Nathan Crenshaw was asked about how excited he was for the movie he said, “I am glad to hear that a new Star Wars movie is in the works, but my expectations are not high with the past few movies.” Junior Olivia Donnelly said, “I think that they should of chose someone else rather than Rey to make the new movie on.” Overall it seems some fans are worried about this up and coming movie and how It will change the Star Wars verse for the good or for the worse.
