This year’s student council election is coming up, many people are running with big plans for the 2024-25 school year. Sophomores and juniors are running again after winning last year; however, there are many new faces in this election. Student Council is important to our school because our peers help plan and set up school functions and set good examples for their peers.
When junior Chuchu Ladu was asked about her plans and re-election she stated, “If I’m re-elected I plan to be more of a leader next year and a friendly face in the halls that people can talk to, people should vote for me because I was on student council this year and I contributed to everything that I was able to be a part of and I plan to do so, even more, my senior year.” Chuchu also ran for Winter Formal Co-chair with Junior Liv Simons and won. She was involved in volleyball and the spring musical.
Sophomore Bryn Mineck is running for the second time after winning last year, and stated, “If I get re-elected I will continue to represent our class to the best of my ability! I have lots of ideas of how to make our school events next year even more awesome and interactive as well as some things the student body can do to interact more with the entire Waukee community.” Bryn is involved in Show choir, A cappella and Varsity Tennis.
Sophomore Ava Howell is running for the first time this year and stated, “People should vote for me because I will make the school feel fun and welcoming for all students. I’m a hard worker and make sure I do all my work before I do something fun. My plans will include making the school a better place where everyone wants to be. I will hold many service activities to help out our community.” Ava does silver cord, donates blood, and has a part-time job.
Sophomore Wyatt Coon is involved in show choir, track, soccer, club soccer, works at Hyvee and is endorsed by choir director Mr. Knutson. When asked why being a part of the student council is important to him he stated, “When I am elected onto the Waukee Student Council students can expect positive change in the community. I promise to do as much as I can for the sophomore (future junior) class and give my peers a voice.” Then he added “I want to be a leader in my community. My goal is to allow my class to freely share ideas with me that I could implement in the future.”
Sophomore Molly Gifford said you should vote for her because “I’m super interested in being more involved in activities around the school. I’m also super creative, so I think my artistic ideas could be a great asset to the student council. Overall I want to have an enjoyable junior year and I think the student council will offer new relationships and opportunities for me.” Molly is involved in club cheer and Iowa Elite cheer.
Another new face running is Laksha Suresh, she’s involved in Jazz Choir, Varsity Tennis, Club Tennis, and Hosa Club, she’s an FBLA officer and works at a tutoring center. When asked what she wants to accomplish if elected she stated, “I want to make a difference in my high school career, I want to voice my ideas and voice the ideas of those around me. I have lots of ideas to better this school and I want to work on projects and plan the fun events offered here at Waukee!!! Vote Laksha Vote Leadership!!”
Sophomore Sanskriti Srivastava stated you should vote for her because “I’m trying to do better than good enough.”- Drake. I believe my peers should vote for me for the junior student council 2024-2025 because I am driven by aspirations of helping contribute to further strengthening our school and its betterment. Waukee is such a supportive, nurturing environment and I hope to be a part of the group that gets the opportunity to help plan dances, fundraisers, and a myriad of other events for our wonderful school while giving back to our gracious community as well!” She is involved in track.
Sophomore Maggie Craig is running for the first time this year and said, “I think that Student Council would be a great way to become more involved in school events. I also think my leadership and organization skills would make me a good fit.” She is involved in Volleyball

Sophomore Peyton Hall is running for the first time this year and stated, “I plan to bring fun ideas to things like dances and spirit weeks and fun school activities. I also plan to listen to what the students want, not a select few!”. She is involved in Softball and volunteering for silver cord hours.
