As we roll into the school year, Waukee High School students and staff are preparing for one of the most anticipated events of the semester—Homecoming Week. The annual Homecoming Week tradition is more than just a series of activities, it’s a celebration of unity and Warrior spirit. Here’s a sneak peek of what you can expect this year:
On the first day of Homecoming Week, Iron Man Volleyball starts at 1:00 p.m. at Centennial Park. Go cheer on our participants and show your support! On Wednesday, the Warriors are traveling up north to play Volleyball. Make sure to buy your tickets and pack the stands. On Thursday at 6:00 p.m., we have the annual parade that runs from South Middle School to Waukee Stadium. Later on, the coronation will be held, and tickets do not need to be purchased, so fill the stands!
And this year’s dress-up themes are some of the best yet! The dress-up days will follow with: Monochromatic Monday, Sports Team Tuesday, Decades Day, Dapper Day, and last but not least, Spirit Day! “The themes are cool, they are pretty creative, and it’s usually pretty funny seeing everyone’s outfit,” says Sophomore Aubrey Flatt.
On Friday night, all the excitement shifts to the football field. This year, we’re playing against one of our biggest rivals, the Dragons. Many of our students are excited for this game. “We beat them last year in their homecoming game, and they are coming here on our night, so I feel like there’s going to be more hype, and it’s going to be a fun game to go to,” said Junior Nathan Tshiamala. A lot of our seniors will be soaking it all in for their last Homecoming game. Senior Allison Lemmon reflects, “I’m super excited to stand in the front of the student section this year. I also know I probably won’t have that type of experience in college, so I’m excited to just experience it one more time.” Whether it’s your first Homecoming game or your last, make sure you show up! It’s more than a football game.
Homecoming wouldn’t be complete without the dance. This year’s theme is “Golden Hour.” The Student Council always puts so much effort into the dance, and it always surpasses expectations. As the big night approaches, students are finalizing outfits, plans, pictures, and so much more. “There’s so much more to the dance than people think. There’s a ton of preparation, and it can be stressful, especially with all the events and schoolwork,” said Senior Allison Lemmon. But it’s all worth it in the end. Homecoming is a chance for students to feel confident and dress up, this is your chance to shine! With the excitement of Homecoming less than a week away, make sure you’re ready to attend all the events and show your Warrior pride. Get your tickets and bring your friends, let’s have a great week, Warriors!
