New Staff at WHS

This year we welcome new staff to Waukee High School, some familiar faces and some new ones. In the office we now have Mrs. Roland as our principal, from Timberline we have Mrs. Nelson as a new counselor, Mrs. Foland as an instructional coach, and Ms. Havlik in the Physical Education department. A new face is Mrs. Frets in the language department teaching German, Mr. Ehrlichman as a new math interventionist, and Mr. Van Roekel in the music department. I asked Ms. Havlik her main motivators to move to the high school and she stated, “The biggest motivator was a change. I started at Prairieview then volunteered to open South Middle as a health teacher, then volunteered to open Timberline as a PE teacher/Strength Coach. It was time to complete the full circle.”
Mr. Van Roekel in the music department said he has thoroughly enjoyed his time at Waukee stating, “I have enjoyed my time so far at Waukee High School. The students in the band program have been extremely welcoming and I have enjoyed getting to know each of them. I’ve been impressed by our students’ work ethic and dedication to doing the little things right.” He also added one of his favorite things about teaching here, “One of my favorite parts about teaching band is teaching how to be good humans through band. Band teaches so many skills like perseverance, time management, and teamwork while also creating a beautiful experience for both audiences and performers to enjoy.”
As the year goes on this will be a new chance to connect with new role models and influences, and remember to show them the Waukee way “treat people with kindness and respect”.
