No More Laptops!

At the end of the 2023-2024 school year students, teachers, and parents were made aware of the change happening the next year, no more laptops! The school, along with the teachers, had many concerns about how the laptops were being treated. Due to this, school administration chose to change back to the iPads for all grade levels. Many students dislike this change for many different reasons, but the most popular reason being that you don’t have to keep switching between apps, you can just open different tabs and get to where you need to go. Sophomore Addy Otto said, “It’s different to use because I haven’t used an iPad in a while, getting used to using iPads again after years of having laptops, and figuring out where everything is with all the new updates.”
Some of the teachers have started to like the iPads while others are still testing them out. Some of the teachers have used iPads in the past, so they know how to navigate them. Mrs. Krueger, who has used them in the past, said, “I used iPads when I was in high school, I liked them so much I decided to get one for college.” This shows how some of the teachers agree with the change and know how to work with the iPads. Mrs. Krueger also stated, “I have used them in the past and have recently been having to teach my students how to upload projects into Canvas.” This change has affected more than just the students and teachers, it’s also affected the parents too.
Most students go home to their parents and tell them all about what happened during their day at school. At the beginning of the year, when the students got their iPads, most went home and complained to their parents about the new change. Haley Stuart said, “I know my student likes having the laptops more and that they don’t like how it takes so long to get into certain apps.” This shows how the parents interpret the students’ thoughts about the iPads. They also shared their own perspective about the iPads, “I personally like the iPads more, the convenience of not having to charge the iPads everyday and the convenience of the size and weight.”
This change does have many bad qualities but it also has many good points too. The iPads are better for the school because they don’t have to pay as much as they did for the laptops and it’s easier to track what people are doing on the iPads. For the students the only real advantage is having a touch screen, otherwise most of the good qualities are towards the school.
