Crumbl Cookies Controversy

Are the social media famous Crumbl cookies truly worth the hype? Crumbl first opened in West Des Moines in 2023 but became TikTok famous in 2024 because of all of the video reviews. Crumbl sells over a million cookies a day, and makesover a billion dollars in annual revenue (that is an average of 83 million dollars a month). Six new cookies every week but are they worth your money?
Crumbl first opened in 2017 in Logan, Utah, and at the time they had one location open. Now in 2024, Crumbl has over 860 locations across the U.S. The creators of Crumbl, cousins Jason McGowan and Sawyer Hemsley, opened the first location with only one cookie flavor, milk chocolate chip. They wanted to make the best chocolate chip cookie in the world and bring people together over a box of delicious cookies. However, there has been controversy about how the cookies taste, people say they are yummy but some say they’re too sweet. Lauren Wilson, sophomore, says the cookies are really delicious, but sometimes it tastes so much like sugar that the cookie is unenjoyable.
Crumbl charges $16 for four regular-sized cookies, $23 for six cookies, $15 for a six-pack of mini cookies, $25 for a 12-pack of mini cookies, and more. Selin Tekinalp, sophomore, says that the prices are pretty expensive considering most teens are buying the cookies, and a lot of teens don’t have a bunch of money to spend. Especially if you buy the six-pack, that’s really gonna make a dent in your bank account. Also, sometimes the cookies aren’t that great so you just wasted all your money.
Crumbl makes six new cookies (and other sweets) every week, but some aren’t new, some have already been released before. Some people on TikTok say that Crumbl might be running out of ideas since they keep repeating their cookies. The most famous cookie is the semi-sweet chocolate chip, it has over 300,000 reviews in the app and is an average of 4.61/5 stars. Lila Bower, sophomore, says her favorite week of cookies she’s gotten was the birthday week (September 23-28) and the Oreo and Twix cookies were her top picks.
Crumbl cookies are very popular yet controversial about the flavors and prices. Do you think the cookies are overhyped? Do you think the cookies are worth your money?
