Disney Classic
Old but gold Disney shows

Lately, Disney has been all about reboots. From classic shows like Lizzie McGuire to films like The Lion King, it seems like they’re focusing more on the past than trying to create something new. But why is Disney doing this?
A big reason is nostalgia. People love revisiting the shows and movies they grew up with, and Disney knows that. Whether it’s That’s So Raven or The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, reboots let fans relive those old memories. Senior Kylaie Douglas said, “Old shows are a way for Disney to connect with people’s emotions and remind them of the magic they grew up with.” Disney is also rebooting more recent hits like Wizards of Waverly Place with The Wizards of Beyond Waverly and Bunk’d, a spinoff of Jessie.
These newer reboots show that Disney isn’t just focused on the old classics but is also giving newer shows a fresh spin. Junior Taryne Werstein said, “Rebooting shows that are still fresh lets Disney update the content for a new generation but still keeps what made them popular.”
Another reason for all the reboots is money. Creating something new is risky, but rebooting old shows is a safe bet because it guarantees an audience. Disney makes money off ticket sales and streaming services.
However, not everyone is a fan of all the reboots. Some feel Disney is playing it too safe and isn’t taking enough creative risks. For example, the live-action Lady and the Tramp didn’t get the same love as the original. Sophomore Jana Maharry said, “It feels like Disney is just replaying old ideas, which can make things less exciting.”
In the end, Disney’s reboot strategy makes sense for business. Until they start focusing on new ideas, reboots will probably keep coming.
