Forever Is a Feeling: Better Than Boygenius?
Lucy Dacus has created her first solo album since the hiatus of her Grammy-winning band Boygenius, but does it hold a candle to her collaborative work?

When Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus began making music together as Boygenius, they already had established and successful careers as solo artists. However, the success of their 2023 debut album The Record catapulted these already famous musicians to new heights, even scoring three Grammy Awards, including Best Alternative Music Album. Soon afterward, the band announced a hiatus and members have focused on their solo careers ever since.
Although Bridgers has not released a major project since, Baker has announced that a collaborative album with fellow indie rock musician Torres, entitled Send a Prayer My Way, will be released on April 18th of this year. Forever Is a Feeling is Dacus’ first record post-Boygenius, and features a collaboration with famed singer-songwriter Hoizer entitled “Bullseye.” Though this track is their first time they’ve recorded music together, both have performed at each other’s concerts, and the song feels like a natural evolution of their artistic relationship.
As Dacus and Hoizer fans rejoice over this dream collaboration, an important question remains unanswered: Will we get an entire album of this dynamic duo? Although this collaboration is my personal favorite song off the album, Forever Is a Feeling is full of excellent indie-pop songs that are sure to fill the Boygenius-shaped hole in the hearts of alternative music fans across the world.
