Track Season Preview

As February is coming to a close and March is starting up that means one big thing: Track season. After a big offseason for a lot of the runners and throwers, everyone is so excited to show the hard work that has been put in the past couple months. This season, the Waukee Girls Track Team is looking for some big PRs, marks, and times to continue the roots we planted last year.
This season, the girls are really capitalizing on bonding and growing a team environment. Though people might view track and field as an individual sport, so much team effort and support goes into the sport. Having the team aspect is beyond important. Senior thrower Kelly Hoffman said, “I love bonding with our teammates and making memories together.” Kelly expressed the value we have in our team as a whole. The sport of track is more than a goal, winning, and success, but more importantly the connections and moments the group shares. Senior Sprinter, Gentry Williams also added on to say, “I’m most excited to run with my friends and have fun at meets!” As much as the sport focuses on running, throwing, and jumping, the sport connects deeper to having fun with your teammates.
Waukee Girls Track and Field is focusing on roots and resolve. As we accomplished major things last season collecting multiple flags and gold medals we placed those roots down. Now we are growing and resolving off of the success of last season. Senior distance runner Mallory Wurth said, “I’m most excited to see everyone’s improvement from last season…” and continued to say, “… we can all push each other to be better and grow as a team.” This is tapping in on the collective progress as a whole. Supporting everyone’s individual success will grow on the team’s success, which is the overall goal. Whether that’s running together, or cheering for each other, teammates are the best way to grow.
The second week of practice is underway and we’re so excited to see what this season has in store for us throughout all the hard work we put in!
