Holidays around this time of year are the best, and Halloween is no exception. In honor of Halloween, people should be reminded of some of the scariest injuries to happen in the National Football League (NFL). Former NFL tight end Zach Miller was facing the New Orlean Saints in 2017, running towards the end zone. Miller caught the ball, but at a great price. Miller suffered a dislocated knee and tore his popliteal artery, he was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where doctors performed emergency surgery in order to save his leg from being amputated. Miller was constantly telling the doctor, “Doc do not cut my leg off, please”. The gruesome injury was only one of many to come later in the NFL.
Going back to 1985, former NFL QB and HOF player Joe Theisman became a victim of Lawernce Taylor’s rage. Theisman was facing the New York Giants, where he got sacked by Lawerence Taylor. This didn’t look like any ordinary sack, since Theisman was lying on the field in pain, with Taylor wrapped around his leg. Soon after, tests showed that Theisman broke both his fibula and tibia on the heartbreaking play. This forced Theisman to retire from football, and never to return to the sport he grew up playing.
A recent injury that has shaken the football world is Dak Prescott’s ankle. Prescott was facing the Giants on October 11th, 2020 when he scrambled for the first down. Not knowingly Simon Fraser tackled Prescott in a way that he landed on his ankle. When Prescott went down, his ankle looked to be snapped in half. In the mix of all the commotion, Prescott was escorted on a stretcher and was in tears. Fans and teammates everywhere were in tears and shock. Later, it was explained that Prescott suffered a compound fracture and dislocation of his ankle. He underwent his first emergency surgery right away where the doctors told him he would need a second surgery in December to further stabilize the ankle.
Popular NFLPlayers throughout the league sent their prayers for Prescott. A future Hall Of Famer, JJ Watt, said; “Feels so bad for Dak. Just Brutal”. Super Bowl champ and MVP Patrick Mahomes, had to say “Big time Prayers up man!!!”, about Prescott. Injuries happen frequently in the NFL. There are some injuries that when mentioned, send a shiver down people’s spine, and they can never forget. While some injuries do happen and can be scary, there are ways to prevent them and be extra careful.
